Daniela Cutait

SOBRE A ARTISTA/ABOUT THE ARTIST

Daniela Cutait is a multifaceted artist who studied visual arts at FAAP in the early 1990s. Always marked by her curiosity, creativity, communication, and restlessness, Daniela found her path in the world of stones and jewelry. For nearly 15 years, she dedicated herself to designing fashion accessories, exploring the beauties and subtleties of this universe.

Inspired by the beauty in simplicity and the delicacy of the almost invisible, Daniela states, “I am a wanderer, seeking inspiration in the streets I walk, anywhere in the world.” Her attentive gaze at nature reveals a new appreciation for its movements, often forgotten in the rush of modern life.

Daniela’s sculptures are a fusion of organic and ornamental elements—spontaneous and stylized. They bring a unique textural and visual dimension, where shadows and light intertwine, creating a constant dialogue between object, light, and shadow.

Her work is the result of a sophisticated creative pursuit in her studio in São Paulo, where she develops pieces crocheted from copper wire, aluminum chains, and beads collected throughout her journey in fashion. Daniela investigates the contrast between man-made materials and natural forms in her ethereal installations, composed of crocheted metal wires and hand-woven meshes.

With the concept of "WALL FASHION ART," Daniela transforms her fashion accessories into true works of art, inspired by renowned jewelers and artists such as JAR (Joel Arthur Rosenthal), Boucheron, and the modernist Ruth Asawa. Her pieces are unique and numbered, playing with the whimsical and the paradox of ephemeral life captured in a time capsule.

“Today, my pleasure is to adorn the walls of people’s homes and not just 'the people.' After all, each cocoon reflects our story and is the translation of our existence at every moment.”

SOBRE O TRABALHO/ABOUT THE WORK

My work with metallic tapestry, especially using copper link mesh, is an expression that unites art and spirituality, transforming negative energies into positive ones. Each link and pattern I create not only displays aesthetic beauty, but also carries a deep meaning that resonates with the beholder. The warm textures and colors of copper evoke welcoming sensations, providing a visual experience that is both sensory and emotional.

The harmony between geometric and organic elements in my tapestry suggests a connection between the natural and the constructed, capturing the attention of passers-by and inviting them on a journey of reflection and transformation. I see my art as a symbol of healing and self-discovery, promoting a dialog about the importance of art in individual and collective well-being.

Each finished mesh is not just a decorative object; it is a testimony to my personal journey. The aluminium links represent the challenges overcome and the choices made, while the crochet stitches symbolize the care and affection given to myself and others along the way. This combination of materials, which at first glance may seem dissonant, reveals an unexpected harmony, reflecting human relationships. It is often the differences that make us stronger and more interesting.

Just as in tapestry, where the rigor of metal is softened by the delicacy of crochet, our interactions can be a dance of contrasts, creating deep and meaningful bonds. When I look at my work, I feel a connection not only with the piece I have created, but also with everyone who has crossed my path and left their mark on my life. This tapestry is an invitation to reflect on the beauty of imperfections and the richness of the experiences that shape us.

In this way, the fabric transcends its original purpose, becoming a symbol of union and welcome, a bridge between different stories and experiences. It is the magic of handicraft, which not only creates, but also connects, celebrating the diversity and beauty of the human experience.
